Pictogram Song Posters: A Picture Is All It Takes [12 Pics]

I think we are all familiar with the saying that a picture is worth more than a thousand words, right? For songwriters, the big challenge has always been to deliver a message based on melody and lyrics, yet still get the core of your thoughts understood. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a deep thought or message since the challenge is still the same every time you write a new song. However, I am not writing this article to explain the ins and outs of how to write a song, or how to express yourself through lyrics. I merely wanted to point out that in comparison, drawing a picture is a much easier way to express something than to actually go through the trouble of writing a song.

Designer and illustrator Viktor Hertz knows this really well, and he’s put together something that I think will put a smile on pretty much anyone’s face. They are the pictograms for some of the world’s most famous songs ever written. The genius in these pictures isn’t in the execution of them, but in the way they are thought up. To me, it’s almost like they were the inspiration for the songs in question when the songwriter wrote them.

It’s easy to see that with a little bit of imagination and a whole lot of skills you can put together something that truly delivers a deep message without having to write a whole book about it. Besides, these pictograms have a certain personal touch to them as well, which is not always expressed in the many covers and re-recordings of famous songs. To me, this is when artistry is taken to another level, since it is far more multifaceted than most of the art being created out there. Viktor promises to create more of these, and if he likes the result of the new ones, he will post them on his Flickr profile page so make sure you check it out. I am really looking forward to continuing to monitor his progress and seeing what he will come up with next. Which one is your favorite and which one do you think makes the most sense?
