10 Halloween Pumpkin Carvings That Look Like Pop Culture Works Of Art

Every year since Halloween of 2009, I’ve chosen some creative pumpkin designs to share here on Bit Rebels. Pumpkin carvings have always been an inspiration to me, and each year, I try to carve at least one masterpiece. Of course, my ‘masterpieces’ never seem to turn out quite like the ones I write about. At least the grilled pumpkin seeds usually turn out tasty. These pumpkin carvings I’m sharing with you today truly look like works of art. I can’t stop staring at them.

These days, some of the incredible pumpkin carvings you might see here and there aren’t real pumpkins. There’s nothing wrong with that of course, it’s just a different style. We gave away a Darth Vader pumpkin a few years ago, and it was carved on a fake pumpkin. You can see the winner unboxing it here on Gian Faye.

I can assure you though, the pumpkin carvings you see below are real pumpkins (even though they are so fantastic they look fake). These particular photos were taken last year at Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, Rhode Island. Every year they put on a jaw-dropping pumpkin display. This year, there will be 5,000 illuminated pumpkins there for visitors to marvel about as they make their way through the show.

It kind of reminds me of a Christmas lights show, only this one is tailored for Halloween. The team that creates these goes to great lengths to be as creative as they can to get the look they want on each pumpkin. They use ballpoint pens, paring knives and even oil-based markers. Just like we see in many great pumpkin carvings, in some places the pumpkin has been completely carved through. In other places, just the skin was removed. By cutting into the pumpkin in different degrees, the carver can create different colors, shadows and depths. Just wow.
