Skateboard Fails: Destroyed or Deformed Skateboards

People around the world celebrate the new year in different ways. Some people make new goals, some people eat black-eyed peas and collard greens (for good luck), some people get completely wasted and some people create destroyed or deformed skateboard art. Go figure.

To celebrate the new year, Alex Trochut, an artist from Barcelona, designed this limited edition collection of skateboards called “Skate Fails.” It was his third collaboration with Appartu. They are all ceramic, and as you will see in the pictures below, some are gold, silver or aluminum plated.

Although this type of art is fun to look at, it doesn’t really fit with the decor of my home. My ten-year-old son, on the other hand, would freak out over having one of these in his bedroom. These mangled up boards remind me a little of how he looks after he’s taken a big digger from practicing his jumps. Every amateur skateboarder has the cuts and bruises to prove they’ve practiced. It’s like a rite of passage. Perhaps that learning curve that almost every young boy I know goes through was part of Alex’s inspiration when he created these, who knows.
