World’s Cheapest Cardboard Digital Camera (Yes, It Really Works)

I started reading about this super simple cardboard camera a few months ago after IKEA put it in their press kit during Milan Design Week. The more I see these pictures, the more I’d love to get my hands on this little guy. It runs on 2 AA batteries and can hold up to 40 images on its memory stick.

It’s called an IKEA Knappa, and it is part of a promotional campaign IKEA will be running soon. This camera can’t be purchased, but it will be given out at select stores for free to people who purchase their PS 2012 collection. They are calling it the world’s cheapest cardboard camera, and I have to admit, it’s a cutie for sure.

The charm of this little camera definitely embodies the fact that it’s all about budget. This isn’t going to sport any fancy features, or even any of the features you might consider basic. It’s just a point and shoot camera whose shutter button is also the power button. This disposable digital camera can take 2.3 megapixel images, and the whole thing runs on one circuit board. It’s simplicity at its best. You can read all the geeky details at Everything We Officially Know About IKEA’s Cardboard Disposable Camera.

I think it’s cute that as IKEA continues to release all kinds of new innovative products, the one that is getting the most attention worldwide is the free little cardboard camera they’ll be giving away soon. It just goes to show us once again that creativity doesn’t have to be packaged in something fancy or sleek to steal the show.
