Happy 20th Anniversary Seinfeld!

“Are you sponge-worthy?” If you understand that question, then you’ll love this article!

Since 2009 marks the 20th anniversary of the first episode of Seinfeld, I thought it was only fitting to write an article to pay tribute to one of the best sitcoms ever created.

I think I have every episode of Seinfeld memorized. I’ve watched them all over and over. If you are like me, Seinfeld isn’t just a TV show, it’s part of who you are. I can find a Seinfeld quote to describe almost every challenge in life. It’s a great reminder that we don’t need to take ourselves so seriously!

Below is a list of some classic Seinfeld-isms. Sit back, relax, and prepare to laugh as you take a walk down memory lane.

Sponge-Worthy – According to the Urban Dictionary: An attractive man, worthy of being a woman’s next sex partner, particularly when her preferred method of birth control is the contraceptive sponge, and her stockpile of sponges is limited (since the only manufacturer had discontinued production). Elaine: “Well, he’s nice enough, but I’m not sure he’s sponge-worthy.”

Serenity Now – A relaxation technique in which one screams “Serenity Now!” It turns out, this technique is not effective because they later learn that it simply allows a person to bottle up the anger until one day you explode as evidenced by Kramer. “Serenity now, insanity later.” – Lloyd Braun

Festivus – A made up holiday that Frank Costanza, the father of George, made up to protest his frustration with the commercialization of Christmas. At the Festivus dinner, you get together with your family and tell them all the ways they’ve disappointed you over the past year. “A Festivus for the rest of us!”

Master of your Domain – The urban dictionary has a great definition for this one: One who is celibate for a period of time. More specifically, one who refrains from masturbation. From an episode of the television show “Seinfeld”, where the main characters have a contest to see who can refrain the longest. George: “Are you Master of your Domain?” Jerry: “I am King of the County. You?” George: “Lord of the Manor.” Elaine: “I’m Queen of the castle.”

Beard – Any opposite sex escort taken to an event in an effort to give a homosexual person the appearance of being out on a date with a person of the opposite sex. Jerry: “And did they suspect anything?” Elaine: “No, I was a fantastic beard. I held hands, I called him honey…”

Mimbo – A male bimbo. Jerry: “”Elaine, he’s a male bimbo. He’s a mimbo!”

If you have another Seinfeld-ism that you remember, please share it with us below!

Here are a few more classic Seinfeld quotes that I couldn’t resist including. These will make you smile!

“Women don’t respect salad eaters.” – Jerry, in “The Wink”

“You’re pushing your luck, little man.” – The Soup Nazi, to George, in “The Soup Nazi”

“I’m grotesque. I look like a troll.” – George, in “The Doodle”

“The female body is a work of art. The male body is utilitarian. It’s for gettin’ around. It’s like a Jeep.” – Elaine, in “The Apology”

“I hate rental cars. Nothing ever works. The window doesn’t work, the radio doesn’t work and it smells like a cheap hooker.” – Jerry, in “The Airport”

“So when somebody has B.O., the “O” usually stays with the “B”. Once the “B” leaves, the “O” goes with it.” – Jerry, in “The Smelly Car”

“I would give up red meat just to get a glimpse of you in a bra.” – George, in “The Secretary”

“I think I would like to play with dolls.” – George, in “The Big Salad”

“I guess I just wasn’t ready for the responsibilities of a pretend-marriage.” – Jerry, in “The Wife”

“I love a good nap. Sometimes it’s the only thing getting me out of bed in the morning.” – George, in “The Nap”

“I gotta tell you, I am loving this yada yada thing. I can gloss over my whole life story.” – George, in “The Yada Yada”

“I gotta get on that Internet. I’m late on everything.” – Jerry, in “The Yada Yada”
