Horror Vacui: Movie Super Villains Get Old Too

There are a lot of factors in the world that we can rule over. We can decide what to eat, when to sleep, where to go and how we want to do all of these things. The list of the things we can control would be infinite if we tried to list them all. There are also factors that we can’t rule over, and those are the ones that we seem to try and bend to our advantage. Since no one has found the “cure” for aging just yet, we are victims to a an ever slower aging process. We see ourselves getting older and older, and there is nothing we can do about it. Well, there are of course some methods to stop the exterior aging process, or at least slow it down a little bit. But the aging process as a whole has yet to be mastered, and who knows if that will ever even be possible.

This brings me to the subject of the day. We all get older, and so do the villains that we have familiarized ourselves with through decades of successful box office movies. Federico Chiesa (photographer) and Carolina Trotta (make-up artist) found this topic so intriguing that they put together a little series of photographs, called Horror Vacui, which shows what the super villains of the ’80s would look like today when they are old. I guess we have all thought about it. Would we have had a better chance of escaping a cold death from these super villains if they had been old?

Well, by the looks of it, you would stand a way better chance of survival if you had picked another time to get chased down by one of these evil forces. The lighting and the eerie feel of these photographs are definitely in line with the movies that some of us were mesmerized by (and of course horrified by) during the ’80s. My favorite horror movie franchise has always been Friday The 13th, so that they have included Jason Voorhees is, to me, a huge plus. I guess you can sit back in that chair of yours and relax now that you know these villains are highly unlikely to come busting through your door, or are they?
