Over the past few years, mobile gaming has seen off all comers. Given the current capabilities of the modern day, next generation consoles, you would have thought that these Microsoft and Sony machines could sleep comfortably at night and, yet, they can’t. This is due in the main to the challenge laid down by social and mobile gaming.
Mobile phones, something just about everyone has now, allow players to play games anywhere they want, just by pulling out your device and switching it on. This has helped smartphones change the gaming landscape forever. It doesn’t matter where you are or what you’re doing; you can find an offline game or if you have a connection, an online one. You can play mobile games while waiting in line at the bank, at work meetings or on public transport, for example. Games are easier to find now too, making the whole experience more favorable, even for those of us who aren’t natural gamers.
With each passing year, we are seeing better and more powerful phones flooding the market as iOS and Android devices, from HTC through Sony, Samsung, compete with each other to be the best and most powerful device of the year.
But it wasn’t always this way. The very first, popular mobile phones on the market came with very basic pixel games, like Snake (above). Once basic mobiles had moved on and evolved, the games started getting better too. If touchscreens sparked the revolution, then Angry Birds led it. In what was the catalyst for smartphone gaming, players were required to kill cartoon pigs by using their finger in a slingshot movement to ping the birds across the screen. The app, which is free to download, is now worth an estimated $6billion and has spawned countless merchandise projects, as well as a great many follow up titles.
In summer 2016, Pokémon Go was released, and things moved on again. This is an augmented reality game which challenges its millions of users to find and catch virtual Pokémon characters in real world surroundings. These are located by way of a vibrating phone telling you that one is nearby, after which you take aim on your smartphone’s touchscreen and throw a Poké Ball to catch it before it runs off.
From there, witness the boom and success in strategy games like World of Warcraft (an advertisement for which was purchased in the US television golden hour of the Super Bowl) and now Hearthstone which has evolved from the former. Stylistically it’s a very similar game with dragons and spells but is more of a card game. A game that is so similar to poker that top pros Daniel Negreanu and Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier are huge fans of it with the latter even winning tournaments in the game.
As much as ElkY has won playing Hearthstone, it will never come close to his online poker winnings where the real money is to be made. Online poker has benefitted from the rise in mobile gaming. In fact, online casinos, in general, have all done very well out of it. There are a ton of apps offered by all the sites (please note, iOS real money apps can be downloaded from the iStore, but Android real money apps must be downloaded directly from your chosen online casino).
Their success can be attributed to convenience and, as with the games listed above, you can play anywhere, anytime. It is an unwritten rule of casinos that genuine profit comes from picking up small wins over time, meaning the more that you play, the better your odds are of finding some form. Also, these shorter sessions mean players are less likely to experience gamer’s fatigue, which leads to mistakes, and are less likely to leave a player glued to their screen going tilt and chasing back a bad beat.
In truth, there are a large number of online mobile casino sites, whether they be poker, roulette, slot machines or many other gambling type forms of entertainment, despite gambling having so many restrictions on it all around the world. This growth has been driven by the need for gaming on the go and the machines that are capable of allowing us one of life’s true pleasures. Plus, the laws and regulations help with keeping the gambling that people do at a responsible level. So mobile gambling is here to stay and is booming right now. Have a few goes on your favorite game as it can’t do any harm.
Play when you are on the move that is what mobile phone gaming is all about. All the best mobile casino apps offer great games like roulette, blackjack, video poker, baccarat, and slots, specifically tailored for your mobile phone or tablet touchscreen.
