In the world of art, there are all kinds of portraits created with almost anything you can imagine. Whether it’s socks, coffee beans, toast crumbs or pencil shavings, there have been portraits created with them. Of course, I find these to be the most fun ones of all. They are mini portraits created from only LEGO bricks. They are LEGO people, and when you look closely at which bricks were used to make them, they don’t look like they would be that difficult to recreate.
These LEGO people were made by Chris McVeigh (aka Powerpig). Chris is known for his mad skills as a LEGO artist. I wrote about him once before when he made The First Macintosh Rebuilt In LEGO. That was an insane build, and it looked just like the first Mac. These LEGO people are fun too, and you’ll see all kinds of geeky favs in this collection.
Chris calls this series “Brick Sketches,” and there are more in the collection than just the ones I put below. He photographed each one with markers next to it so it would look like they were drawn like regular portraits, but of course that isn’t the case. Also, the markers show the scale of the portraits so you can see how small they are.
Apparently Chris had a lot of fun putting these together because he is planning to make many more. He already has the rough drawings for his next batch of LEGO people. The only question left is, which one is your favorite? I have to go with R2 of course, but the Optimus Prime is another favorite of mine. I like the Stormtrooper and the Ninja Turtle also. Actually, I like all of them! If you make your own, I hope you’ll come back and leave us some pictures so we can see your mini portraits too.
