12 Movie Quotes As If Spoken By A Proper Englishman

Not only are these images funny, this is a topic that is near and dear to my heart. I have always loved accents and language, but being as involved as I am in social media makes it all even more interesting. One of the things I look forward to the most when I talk to a Twitter friend on the phone or Skype for the first time after we’ve been tweeting for a while is hearing what that person’s voice sounds like. I touched on that quite a bit when I wrote Twitter’s 30 Most Eligible Bachelors.

Whether it’s a cute Canadian accent (@Flipbooks), a heavy UK accent (@paul_steele) or even a northern United States accent (@tommytrc), it’s always fun to hear. I remember the first time I heard @Minervity‘s voice on Skype about two years ago. He lives in Sweden, but since he’s worked with voices his whole life in the music industry, when he speaks to me, it sounds like he’s my next-door neighbor. I have a heavy southern United States accent, and that includes a lot of ya’lls, fixins, and dag-gumits which all probably make no sense to you if you haven’t been to this part of this country.

If you’d like to read more about accents, you can check out the absolutely phenomenal chart created by someone waaaaay more OCD than me in North American Dialect Chart: Ya’ll Talk Funny. Since I’m an audio person, I think accents are sexy. So what about the accent of a proper Englishman? Hmm… What is a proper Englishman exactly? I’m not sure if I’ve ever spoken to a proper Englishman, but after reading these rewritten movie quotes, I want to talk to one just so I can hear what that voice sounds like.

The Frogman, a comedian and blogger at Slacktory, teamed up with Canvas to bring you a huge collection of movie quotes as if they were spoken by a proper Englishman. You can go to Canvas to upload your own and view them all. I suddenly have the urge to drink some English tea from a very fancy, fragile and flowery porcelain teacup with my pinky finger sticking straight up in the air. See… I can be proper too, maybe, if I try real hard. :)
