5 YouTube Experiments Using Ink Cartridges For Other Things Than Printing

Ink cartridges aren’t the first items that come to mind when you think about science experiments. However, there’s been a few YouTubers that have been creative enough to work them into interesting experimental projects that have produced some interesting outcomes. In this article, the team from Cartridges Direct share the following videos from YouTube where experiments are conducted using ink cartridges. Please be advised that none of these experiments should be tried at home.

Red Hot Nickel Ball vs Ink Cartridge

This video was sent to the YouTube channel Carsandwater and has racked up half a million views since it was first published in 2015. In the video, a brand new Hewlett Packard ink cartridge is opened and placed on a concrete block. A few moments later, the red hot nickel ball is placed on top and melts into the ink cartridge.

As the ball continues to sink further into the ink cartridge, you can see more flames being emitted. The end of the video shows a crater-like impression in the ink cartridge. You can watch the full video below.

Is it A Good Idea To Microwave Ink Cartridges?

As the name suggests, the YouTube channel (known as The Microwave Show) sees three young men microwave a couple of ink cartridges to see what the outcome is. Ink cartridge manufacturers advise against heating the cartridges. You can watch the full video below.

Glowing 1000 Degree Knife vs Printer Cartridge

There’s been a lot of 1000 degree knife videos floating around on YouTube. In this video, you can see the person heating up the knife and then tease the viewers with the knife by slicing and melting some other things first, before moving onto the main attraction that is the printer cartridge.

In the video, he appears to use a Canon cartridge. The heated knife seems to slice through the printer cartridge with relative ease. Skip to the 45-second mark if you just want to watch the hot knife versus the printer cartridge.

Will It Print With Red Wine?

These guys have a channel dedicated to experimenting with different food and beverage items to see if they will still print using the ink cartridge. What do you think will happen? Check out the video below.

Create Ferrofluid And Create An Optical Illusion Using Magnets

If you’re unaware of what ferrofluid is, it is a magnetic fluid that contains nanoparticles that can be magnetized. You can create this fluid at home by following the video tutorial below. Although you will need to purchase some ink toner, vegetable oil, and an Earth magnet.

Now that you have watched the video, you can see how magnets influence the properties of the liquid to create an interesting illusion. Watch the video below to see more.

This experiment doesn’t specifically use the ink cartridge itself, but you can use the toner from the ink cartridge.

Are there some other ink cartridge experiments that you have seen? Feel free to share some of them in the comments below.
