A Tribute To The Most Creative City In The World: Seattle

Fast Company magazine named Seattle the most creative city of the year for 2009. I had no idea that the small town of Seattle was such a creative hot spot. I’ve never been there, and up until today, the only things I knew about Seattle are that it rains a lot and many of my favorite musicians hail from there.

As it turns out, there is a lot more to Seattle than meets the eye. Aside from the beautiful mountains and scenery, there is an underlying culture of free living that I have not seen before. The attitude is all about, “Do what you want, do what makes you happy.” That explains why people like Quincy Jones and the Bill Gates live there. And, everyone knows that Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana and Pearl Jam all began their musical careers in Seattle. Duff McKagan, who was part of my favorite band of all time, Guns N’ Roses, and now writes for Playboy.com is also from Seattle.

So what exactly is the magic formula that gives a small town of 600,000 people such a creative edge? I’m not sure what it is, but for the first time ever, I’m finding myself wanting to visit Seattle and experience it for myself.
