The geek community seems to be on fire these days. There is no idea out there that is too far-fetched or too creative to be realized, especially when it comes to famous people’s portraits. The latest in a row of bizarre creations was a Mona Lisa replication using over 100,000 carats of gem stones. The guy creating it took over 30 years to collect the stones and then another 5 years to put it all together. It’s destined to raise the highest bidding for an artwork ever when it’s sold, but the creator wants to hold onto it for a little while longer. There is another form of artwork that is just as commendable and impressive, especially when you consider that it must have taken forever to put together the framing for it.
The Muhammad Ali portrait created by designer Michael Karish is made out of 1,500 punching bags. It is not only an amazing display of patience and planning, but it is also equally impressive considering that the frame, which holds up all of these punching bags, must have been carefully planned, created and put together. By the looks of it, it’s everything but simple and when the artwork is viewed from the side, is just looks like a bunch of punching bags hanging from a steel frame.
The coolness of it all is that with all of these punching bags aligned in just the right angle and viewed from the right position, you will find Muhammad Ali perfectly pictured. Hanging all of those punching bags on that frame must have taken ages, but measuring the lines or chains that are holding all of them must have taken even longer. Some geeks just don’t see the limitations of time or the exhaustion of labor that seems to be endless. It’s pure dedication if you ask me.
