No Backing Down: Super Mario Doesn’t Always Win

It’s evident that the hero concept in gaming is slowly coming to an end. We’re no longer interested in saving the girl, the world or anything else for that matter. We simply just want entertaining gameplay, and a way to kick some butt it seems.

Gaming, for me personally, is all about achievement. Maybe that’s why I really like games where you actually get rewarded for your dedication like in Empire Avenue. At the same time, since I’m a designer, I am of course quite interested in the latest graphics engines and the technology behind them, but that doesn’t mean I won’t enjoy battling it out with a friend every once in a while.

When Super Mario was introduced, and this time I mean in his first incarnation, the gameplay was quite simple. All you had to do was to jump over the barrels that a gorilla threw at you. Back then, we didn’t have such high expectations for games that were released. As long as there was something to do, and something to move on the screen, we were more than happy to play it. The only exception was of course the game E.T, which recently was voted the worst computer game every released.

However, I am sorry to say, heroes don’t always win, and I think I have proof of that. Not only don’t they always win, they are sometimes quite wimpy as well. I know I will probably break a couple of hearts, and put a few people on the other side of happy, but Super Mario is one of those. He doesn’t have any super powers (despite his name), and the only thing he has going for him is his ability to jump, and he does it quite high as well. Checking this little video clip out will have you either giggling or gasping for air due to the… well let’s just say that it will end in quite a different manner than what he is used to.

Oh, and we are all on Empire Avenue if you want to make an investment or just try this new social networking site out. It’s pure brilliance! Bit Rebels, Diana Adams, Misty Belardo.
