Star Wars X-Wing Fighter Soapbox Derby Car

As a kid, my brother and I were always talking about the ultimate soapbox car, and how it would be built. We had a couple of runs building some, which to our amazement, were quite fast and cool. However, the designs were nothing that gave us bragging rights, but that of course didn’t matter to us. We rolled down the streets in those derby cars like we owned the road. Eventually the builds came undone since we always failed to secure the wheels properly, which for some reason, was always the weak point in our designs. When looking at some of the designs that people put together today, I see how far these things can been taken, and how much care and love is poured into them.

Instructables writer The Papier Boy is on a whole different level than we were ever on. His creation is by far the geekiest and cool I have, well, EVER seen. For the 2011 Nazareth Adult Soapbox Derby, he decided to make his soapbox car a lasting memory, not only for himself, but for everyone who saw it. And I tell you, the thing is just off the hook if you ask me. He decided to go with a Star Wars X-Wing Fighter design, and reading about how he put it all together is like watching a discovery channel show, but with a whole lot more information.

The whole soapbox just oozes Star Wars, and even R2-D2‘s top dome is created so that it can rotate to make the effect even more lifelike. As you can see, growing up has never been more fun than it is now. Even Red Bull is hosting their own soapbox car derby these days, and I am sure the list of other races would be super long if you really got into it. So, if you want to beat these guys and do it with honor, the only way would be to create the Death Star on wheels or something else from the Star Wars series. Go nuts, that’s exactly what it is all about.
