Transforming LEGO Nintendo 64 & Controller Is A Retro Geek’s Dream

LEGO and Nintendo complement each other well, and there have been many LEGO Nintendo mashups presented over the years. This one is one of the best ones I’ve seen so far. Not only is it a Nintendo 64 and controller made out of LEGO, but each one transforms into a, well, Transformer. This must take the ultimate level of skill as a LEGO builder, and these pictures really speak for themselves. They would be the ultimate geek toys, and I don’t mean just for kids.

Baron von Brunk is no stranger to elaborate retro LEGO builds. If you click over on his link, you’ll see a selection of them. These LEGO Nintendo 64 Transformers (LEGOformers) must be his pride and joy though because they are fantastic. He created them for the 2013 Toy Brick Contest.

According to his webpage their names are Ultra Hexacon and Tetragon (the transforming LEGO Nintendo 64 and controller). Their transforming game pak minions are Hot-Shot and Mecha Kong. He writes:

The original LEGO models are made in near perfect size and proportion to authentic N64 components, and can transform completely. By transform completely, I mean each robot can transform from N64 accessory to robot and back without detaching or removing any parts, with the exception of Tetragon’s controller cord.

Out of all these separate pieces, the games and the controller took the longest to make. He had to overcome several engineering obstacles. As you’ll see in the pictures, Ultra Hexacon’s power supply pack transforms into a shoulder-mounted rocket launcher. Tetragon’s memory card doubles as an ammo magazine for Hexacon’s shoulder weapon. Now if that’s not geeky cool, I don’t know what is. Unfortunately, there is not a tutorial. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
