1962 vs. 2011: The Price Tag On Living Life

People are always comparing Microsoft with Apple. We even do it a lot on this blog. It’s just such a great story. It’s like watching a movie play out in real life. Here’s an interesting little tidbit… Did you know that during the last quarter, Apple took in more revenue from iPhone and iPad sales than all of Microsoft? That blows my mind because I remember back in the day when geeks were considered outcasts and owning anything Apple was looked at as a bad decision. Times have changed a lot since then.

If you take out the technology aspect of this and just look at it from a financial standpoint, it’s wild on a whole different level. If someone would have told me ten years ago that I would spend several hundred dollars on an iPhone and an iPad, I would have said they were crazy. However, I did it, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Along the same lines, ten years ago I would never have paid $120 to get my hair colored or $60 on a pair of blue jeans, both of which I do now. Acid Cow took a look at how times have changed and laid it all out for us in these pictures below. You can click over to their website for even more examples. The person who created this must live in a small town though because here in the city of Atlanta, a lot of this stuff costs more now than what is listed. I think the biggest shocker on here is the cost of University tuition. I’ve known all along that the cost of education is skyrocketing, but dang, at this rate, who will be able to afford college in the future?
