How To Deal With & Cure A Creative Block [Infographic]

Having the opportunity to be creative on projects is one of the most rewarding endeavors one can undertake. The feeling of finishing something that you once only imagined in your mind is sometimes greater than the reward of the creation itself, if that make sense. But creativity can also be something that can drive you nuts. I mean, when stress is involved, creativity just seems to be blocked off indefinitely. You can sit there and put pressure on yourself to be creative, but often times nothing seems to trigger it. Most creative people know what I am talking about. There is no such thing as unlimited creativity, and no one possesses the skill to trigger it whenever they want to. It’s just there sometimes, and then it’s not. However, curing a creative block is many times easier than you might think.

A lot of people think if you just keep at it, creativity will come, but nothing could be harder than trying to push good creativity out of your head. It just doesn’t work that way. When you are truly creative, ideas just seem to flow. It’s an incredible experience, just like the experience of not finding any creativity at all. Not only is it stressful when that happens, but you can easily start to doubt yourself. That in itself will keep your creativity from flowing like it used to.

When it comes to curing a creative block, there are many things you can do. Creativity is triggered by a lot of things, and usually it varies from person to person. There are some things you can do in order to help your creativity flow again. Usually it is a matter of just stressing down a little bit. Stress is one of the worst things that can happen to a creative block. Stepping away from what you “have” to do and approaching it from a “want” to do perspective will in most cases untangle the creative block, and put you back on the right path again.

In an infographic called How To Deal With Creative Block by Logo Design Gurus, we are treated to some of the things you can do in order to cure that creative block of yours. Many things might seem straight forward, but at the moment when your creative block seems to be the worst, doing these things seems futile and stupid. What you should remember at that time is that they really do help.

Letting the brain rest for a bit is one of the best things you can do in order to cure that creative block. It doesn’t have to be something extravagant or super active, all you need to do is step away from what you are doing for a few minutes to let the brain “reboot.” Sometimes that is the only thing necessary to do in order to cure a creative block.

My own humble experience is also that if you are faced with a daunting amount of creative work, often the best thing to do is to start slow anyways. Creativity can spawn by the sheer presence of achievement. Once you feel you have started, and maybe laid down the foundation for your work, a creative block can be cured almost seamlessly. Never underestimate the power of your own dedication. It doesn’t have to be focused on the task at hand, but with dedication you can usually unblock that creativity. Never fear a creative block though, just make sure you don’t actively embrace it.
