Men vs. Women: Our Favorite Colors Based On Gender

Color, or the lack of it, is such a huge part of our lives. People spend a lot of time learning how to manipulate colors for photographs, or how to mix just the right colors for paint. When you think about it, we start being associated with colors even before we are born. Many times parents receive pink or blue gifts the moment they find out if they are having a boy or a girl.

Apparently this color association continues throughout our lives. There are no “set in stone” rules about these colors when it comes to gender; however, KISSmetrics compiled data from the past several decades regarding this subject and put it all together in this very interesting infographic below.

The first thing I noticed is how the color blue is liked by many men and women. It seems to be the overall color of both genders. This conclusion is even supported by an article I wrote a while back called The Most Powerful Colors On The Internet, which pinpoints the color blue as the number one color online. Have you ever stopped to think about how many logos are blue?

Another thing I find interesting is how many women (33%) agree that orange is their least favorite color. Orange is definitely my least favorite color. I had no idea so many other women felt the same way. Brown, yellow and gray also rank as colors women don’t really like. I would have to concur with all of those. If you would like to learn more about colors and how they affect people from a branding perspective, you might want to check out Richard’s article The Ultimate Visual Color Theory Guide Behind Brand Design. I also found another fascinating article about colors at Colors and Psychology.
