Photography: Your Refrigerator Reveals Your Life

I’ve always said that you can tell a lot about a person by checking out their refrigerator. If people walked into my home and went to my fridge, they would get to know me very quickly. Since I collect refrigerator magnets from every city I visit, they would see dozens of them all over the outside of it. They would also see pictures from special celebrations, and of course, personal artwork.

All of that isn’t even including what’s on the inside. Some people I know store Tofu and fresh vegetables in their fridge, others usually have only beer. I just opened my refrigerator, and inside is a bottle of ketchup, a block of cheese, and some butter. Hmm… It’s time to go shopping I think.

Photographer Stephanie de Rouge is also fascinated by people’s refrigerators. She photographed the inside of 45 different refrigerators in homes located in New York and Paris. She compiled them all into a series called “In Your Fridge.” In the sampling of her work below, you’ll see the refrigerators matched with the people they belong to. Is it what you would expect? This reminds me of the photographer who took pictures of the contents of women’s purses. I wrote about that in an article called The Truth Comes Out: What Women Carry In Their Handbags. It’s all so personal and revealing. Very cool!
