Spiritual Teacher And Author Gregory Drambour – How To Move Forward When Feeling Stuck In Life

Life is about moving forward. If you’ve found yourself in a rut, if it feels like the world is moving on without you, leaving you behind. Or you may feel paralyzed and uninspired or doubting yourself, questioning your own abilities, struggling to find purpose. Breaking out of a stagnant phase can be easier than you think.

You’re always one new thought away from a first step and it’s that initial step that can propel you forward. Renowned author Gregory Drambour says, “Stuck-ness at its core is first questioning the thought that tells you are “stuck.”  If the Creator (whoever that is to you) showed up, would they say you are “stuck.” Probably not! You’re in fact right on schedule!

Through Sedona Sacred Journeys, spiritual teacher and author Gregory Drambour helps visitors overcome various internal challenges. His Sedona retreats focus on empowerment, healing, and spiritual well-being. With more than 35 years as a healer, he’s helped thousands overcome their internal hurdles and unlock their full potential. He is the author of three books on practical spirituality: The Shaman & His Daughter, The Woodstock Bridge, and The Lead Guitarist & The Sisterhood of the Wolf.

He believes that if you find yourself in resistance, get excited, you have a real chance to leap forward! “Resistance is a sophisticated, shape-shifting monster,” he explains. “It has your number. It knows exactly how to get in front of you and stop you from moving forward.” Drambour graciously provided his insight into how you can outsmart your own resistance and move forward with purpose and motivation.

Let Go Of Your Expectations

When you are struggling, you’re more than likely experiencing feelings of disappointment and self-judgment. You may be frustrated with your own lack of motivation or angry at your inability to create change. When it comes to making your first steps forward, Gregory Drambour highlights the necessity for self-forgiveness; be gentle with yourself and your own expectations. Let go of the harsh ideas regarding your own shortcomings.

With the immense pressure of what you should be doing or how you should be feeling lifted from your shoulders, your natural focus and determination which you were born with will flow up without effort which will likely lead to taking action. In the meantime, be kind and gentle with yourself as you try.

Believe In Your Abilities

Often, we find ourselves paralyzed with inaction because we feel inadequate or insufficient. As a direct result of these fears, many self-sabotage their own growth, making forward movement impossible. These fears—often deep-seated and unconscious—drain your motivation and leave you uninspired.

According to Drambour, the key to embracing your true potential is by realizing that it is your “own” thinking that creates the fear to move forward – you could ignore that thinking and see it as untrue. New inspiring thoughts will flow up if you give it a chance. Why? Because inspiring thinking is your default setting!

If you are experiencing self-doubt, ask yourself, “is there any other way to look at it?“. Point yourself in a nice direction: take a walk, watch tv, take a bath – you want to create space for your innate wisdom to flow up – and it will, that’s the rule!

Stop Waiting For Answers

If you’re feeling hopeless, Gregory Drambour has one key suggestion: stop waiting on answers and act. If the journey seems too daunting or you’re unsure where to begin, start small. Take a look at your routine, for example, and find ways to bring elements of the unexpected into your day-to-day life.

Often, we wait for inspiration to strike. We fall into wrongly believing that motivation will hit us like an impulse if we just sit quietly and wait long enough—the opposite is true. The longer you wait and the harder you look for the provocation you need to spur you into motion, the further away from you it will drift.

Breaking free from a period of stagnant apathy requires one thing: action. It may not feel good or fun, but it’s the one thing that’s necessary to end a rut. “Forget motivation,” says Drambour. “It’s just about doing it.” Rather than waiting around, he recommends fighting through those feelings of resistance and take your first step forward—whatever that step may be. When you confront it head-on by “doing,” resistance will run for the hills and your natural determination and focus will show up. That’s the rule!

If you make the initial effort to create movement, the muse will meet you there and reward you, eventually with a pure flow of creativity and inspiration. Most importantly, don’t wait or procrastinate. Instead, take action immediately. You’ll be surprised by another action appearing out of the creativity inside you.

Seek Help And Encouragement

If you feel you’ve tried everything and nothing has worked, remember that you don’t have to go it alone. Instead, enlist the help of your community, a friend, or the guidance of a professional. At his Sedona  Retreats, for example, Gregory Drambour has helped many of his clients overcome internal barriers and take action towards their true potential and dreams.

Whether you attend a retreat, speak to a mental health physician, confide in a friend, or request support from your community—never be afraid to reach out for help. The inspiration you are seeking is inevitably within you, but often, it is with the support of others that will help you best harness its power.

Gregory Drambour is the owner of Sedona Sacred Journeys and author of three books on practical spirituality and shamanism: The Shaman & His Daughter, The Lead Guitarist & The Sisterhood of the Wolf, and The Woodstock Bridge.
