Here in Atlanta, July is one of the hottest months of the year. It can get so hot that when you walk outside your breath is taken away for a second. It’s definitely an environment that takes some getting used to, and for people who don’t have an air conditioner, it can be downright miserable. Maybe you live in a hot climate too, but you don’t have a way to stay cool. If that’s the case, you might want to make your own cooling device. This is a DIY air conditioner.
This DIY air conditioner is very inexpensive to make, and you might be able to find all the materials in your garage right now. Most air conditioners here in the States are either in the form of central air incorporated into the house, or a window air conditioner unit. This homemade air conditioner works off the premise of pumping cold water through tubing in front of a fan. It may not be as cool as an actual air conditioner, but it is definitely a worthwhile second choice.
The tutorial for this DIY air conditioner was created by Instructables user ehensel1, and you can access it at Homemade Air Conditioner. All you’ll need to make this a reality is a fan, some tubing, a water pump, some zip ties, a cooler and some ice. From what I can see, this is about the cheapest way you can cool your sweaty face in the heat of summer. It’s a lot more energy efficient than running the central air in your home.
If you want to make some money, I bet you could come to Atlanta where I live (or anywhere in the southern part of the States), and sell these to people who don’t have an air conditioner. I can think of a lot of people who would pay money for someone to make one of these air conditioners for them!
