If you are like me, you spend the majority of your day and night in front of your computer. It’s very common for me to sit down at my computer when it’s dark outside, and not stop working until it’s dark outside again. Then I take a quick bike ride or walk, and before I know it, I’m sitting in my bed in front of my laptop for a few more hours. I’m not complaining though, I love what I do, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
In order to keep up the creativity and inspiration when we are in front of the screen for so many hours each day, it’s important to make sure we are surrounded by things in our environment that make us feel happy and energized. For some people, that is special artwork or sculptures. For other people, it’s having animals close by to keep them company. For Richard, it’s his beloved hot tea. For me, it’s a sense of being close to nature.
I started thinking today about ways I can incorporate more nature into my daily routine. I often sit on my deck outside when I work, but when the sun hits my computer screen it makes it inefficient and hard to read. If I could choose anything, I think my first choice would be to build a beautiful treehouse office complete with a spiral staircase and year-round Christmas lights. That would be a dream come true!
As I was looking online to find examples of offices that are outside, I stumbled upon a post on The Wondrous from 2009. It featured an office building in Westchester County, New York that is actually built in the woods. As you can see, people are working alongside a fantastic view of nature since an entire wall of the building is a glass window overlooking the forest. This is fantastic!
