10 Myths About YouTube Users That Are False [Infographic]

When you hear the words “YouTube User,” what are your thoughts? Most people picture a pale lazy teenager that is constantly watching Minecraft videos. Sure, there are YouTube users that are like that. However, the majority of them are not. The fact is that there are a lot of myths about YouTube users that are false. Most users are quite driven, connected and have a busy social life. Let’s take a closer look at a few myths about YouTube users that are false.

To our help, we will use an infographic called “10 Myths About YouTube Users” created by Graphic Digital Agency. It is the result of an online study of 1,580 UK individuals representative of the online Youtube community. The subjects are all over 13 years old.

The first eye-catching assumption is, of course, that most users are teenagers. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. The study shows that as much as 90% of YouTube’s users are over 19 years old. Over 50% are over 35 years old. That should once and for all debunk the myth that the majority of the YouTube users are teenagers.

Ever heard of Caturday? – Another assumption is that the most viewed content on YouTube are cat videos. Nope! The top content watched are music, comedy, and DIY (Do It Yourself) videos. Even though still popular, the popularity of cat videos has died down some.

When it comes to advertising, one might think that YouTube users are sick of them and never try advertised products. Completely wrong! 41% of YouTube’s users have taken an action after watching an ad on YouTube.

YouTube’s users are highly connected, active, and follow events around the world carefully. One can assume that the social network’s user are highly informed about the state of the world and what’s going on.

Have a look at the infographic below to find out the other false myths about YouTube’s users. Perhaps you know of one that is not on the list? If so, let us know in the comment section below. It’s always interesting to learn more about the YouTube community.
