How To Brand Yourself Properly In Social Media

People are drawn to social media and why not? We get the chance to connect and network with different people from all over the world 24/7. The world gets smaller. Imagine having the chance to get views and opinions from leaders of different industries. Think about geting the freshest news from the people who make the news. Life online has become very vibrant.

I know a lot of people who have three social networking accounts. I have a Twitter, FaceBook and a personal blog (aside from Bit Rebels and Ink Rebels). I make an effort to be sure that I make the most out of them by branding myself properly. Some people I know who are very successful with their personal brand follow some simple guidelines in order to be well known around the world wide web.

1. Avatar – If you have a consistent avatar across all social networking sites then people will easily recognize you. You may say that it is boring to have just one avatar, well fret not, you can use the same picture and jazz it up a bit when you get bored. If you feel that you cannot live without changing your avatar or profile pic, then change it, just don’t change it everyday. Allow people to get used to your change first. More often than not, people will recognize you with the image you use and not always by your handle.

2. Bio or About Page – Some people take it for granted when they write their bios, or they don’t write anything at all on their about page. Take note that this is your opportunity to let the world know who you are and what your interests are.

3. Custom Twitter Background – Create a background for your Twitter account and skin your blog with something relevant to who you are. This may take some effort, but believe me, it will be worth it. If you feel you cannot do it, hire a designer to help you, or choose from hundreds if not thousands of available free templates. Just make sure that your background says something about who you are and what you stand for.
