AirGo Airline Seat Design Could Change Airline Comfort Forever

As competition gets tougher, prices go down. That’s pretty much the effect in any area of business. They say it’s good for consumers since competition drives prices down. Of course that’s true, but there are other developments that are a little bit more worrying. Often times, the quality of the services and products also gets bumped down in order to stay competitive. Airline comfort is one of those areas, but that might change with this new, innovative seat design.

Design student Alireza Yaghoubi might have come up with an airline seat design that could solve the problem of decreasing quality in airline comfort. Clever brands know that lowering the quality of services or products in order to stay competitive isn’t an effective way to gain more loyal customers. It’s quite the opposite really. That is exactly what this concept is about.

This new and innovative airline seat design is dubbed the AirGo, and it could enable a significant increase in airline comfort when traveling. The idea is to make each unit self-contained and bump up the comfort as well as mobility. This concept seat design is divided up into two parts. The primary one is the seat design itself. It takes up only 16% more space than an ordinary seat in the economy class does today. Furthermore, the seat design sports some quite comfortable ergonomic features. The second part of the concept seat design is what could be called the mobility hub. Everyone knows we are getting more and more mobile with everything we do, so we need a way to make sure we are able to continue that trend.

Above the new seat design is this hub (or pod) which includes a storage pod, a tray and a TV screen. It’s not too hard to imagine that you could easily hook up your iPad or iPhone to this thing, and with a wireless keyboard keep working as if you were still in your office. It’s all about optimization without loss of quality, comfort or mobility. The extra 16% that this new seat design concept takes up could easily be covered by the sale of apps, songs or whatever else you can sell through the hub’s display. It’s all about making the traveler enjoy the time on board without messing with the comfort of the trip itself. This could very well be the solution. For his design, Yaghoubi won the James Dyson Award (British inventor’s foundation annual award). Is this a concept of the future?
