Cesium 133 Is The World’s First Consumer Atomic Wristwatch

Let’s quickly look at what’s out there when it comes to watches, shall we? First, we have the traditional timepieces that range from analog to digital. For decades we have seen these things, and the way they look and operate hasn’t changed much. Only recently have we seen some innovation in the form of smartwatches. However, battery life has always been a problem with those, and it still is. The Cesium 133 atomic wristwatch doesn’t have that problem.

That is correct, the Cesium 133 is the world’s first atomic powered wristwatch. It was Bathys Hawaii who recently announced they are only going to make 20 of these watches. So what does it mean that these watches uses atomic power to charge them? Well, for starters it means this wristwatch will still be running way after your ordinary watch or your smartwatch runs out of battery. It will keep running for approximately a 1,000 years or so, give or take a few.

The second thing we need to know is that since this is an atomic wristwatch, it’s going to be huge, and that’s the least we can say it is. It becomes a little “bulky” if you will. But then again, if you’re looking for a watch to last you a lifetime, this atomic watch is definitely what you are looking for.

Being that this is the world’s first atomic wristwatch, and the fact that they are only going to make 20 of them, tells us that each one can’t possess too much atomic fuel – and that they will be expensive. As a matter of fact, these wristwatches will sell for $12,000 each, and it’s guaranteed that it will never run out of power in your lifetime or your children’s lifetime or even their children’s lifetime, yeah I could keep going for quite a while.

Even though the watch uses traditional hands and a gear train to drive the hands and the moonphase, inside there is no quartz crystal – only a true cesium-based atomic clock. This further means that the watch will only have an uncertainty of one second in 1,000 years. I think that should keep you on time most of the days during your life, right?
