Chirpbug.TV: A New Way To Interact With Online Videos

Let’s face it, watching videos online can usually prove to be a somewhat passive experience. The only thing people actively do during this process is become less productive members of society.  But, thanks to Chirpbug.TV, that’s all about to change.

The brainchild of writer/comedian Janine DiTullio, Chirpbug equips videos with an interface that transforms online video viewers into an audience with a collective voice. For example, users can ‘clap’ and/or ‘laugh’ at the parts of a video they enjoy, or ‘groan’ and/or ‘boo’ at the parts they hate. So, instead of spending countless hours screaming profanities towards your computer monitor at a Justin Bieber video, you can simply mash the ‘Boo’ button on the Chirpbug interface. Not only will this inform the world that you are immune to Bieber Fever, it will probably also save you from having a hypertension-induced heart attack.

To celebrate its recent launch, Chirpbug will be streaming a live comedy show from its headquarters in NYC this Thursday, May 17th, at 8 P.M. EST. Headliners include comedians Rachel Feinstein from Last Comic Standing and Matt Graham, who in addition to appearing on Late Night with Conan O’Brien and the WTF with Marc Maron Podcast, was the 1997 World Scrabble Championship runner-up. As rumor has it, Graham choked during the final round of the tournament after his opponent spelled out “STICKTOCOMEDY” on the board and the judges accepted it.

If you happen to be in NYC at the time of the event, head over to 78 5th Avenue and join the live audience for only $5 in exchange for a ton of laughs. Otherwise, you can catch the event for free at Chirpbug.TV from the comfort of your own pajama pants and oversized t-shirt. Check out the video below to get a taste of what you’re in store for.
