World’s First Wi-Fi Kettle Lets You Boil Water From Your Smartphone

Once again, it seems the most mundane activities in our lives can’t escape the grasp of technology, and I love it. In this particular case, I’m referring to boiling water. Now there is a high tech way to do it, and it sounds so luxurious. Imagine what it would be like to have a butler to prepare your hot drinks for you every time you get the urge for some tea or hot chocolate. This kettle, called the iKettle, was designed with that experience in mind.

It allows you to boil water in the kitchen from anywhere in your house via your smartphone, but its features go beyond just that. For example, if you had one of these, you could ditch that annoying alarm clock app on your phone.

Instead, your iKettle would softly greet you in the morning by saying, “Good Morning! Would you like me to pop the kettle on? Yes / No.” If you click yes, this kettle will boil water in the kitchen for you while you are still waking up. When the water is boiling, it will ask you if you’re ready for it right now or if you’d prefer to keep it warm for a while. Holy crap, I need one of these immediately.

This wi-fi iKettle is just another in a long string of home appliances that we’ll engage and interact with to simplify and improve our lives. Just the other day, I wrote about a smoke detector that talks to you. Before you know it, everything in our homes will be interactive. We’ll wonder how we ever lived without all that stuff. I’m sure if I had this iKettle, I’d never boil water the old fashioned way again. You can preorder this over on Firebox for $159. It will be available the last week of November.
