Granny Game Activities Soar In New Study [Infographic]

A question that a lot of people ask themselves when they are going through life is, “What will I do when I get old?” Some people keep working even though they have the opportunity to retire just because they don’t know what else to do to keep themselves active and busy. It’s not hard to understand that if you slow down and just let life pass you by when you are old, your body will probably deteriorate faster. That’s a theory that’s been going around for centuries really. With the technology of today, there are a lot of ways we can keep our bodies and minds sharp even as we get older. One way is through gaming, and these could be called granny games. Nintendo Wii and of course Microsoft Kinect are great examples of such technologies.

To be honest, granny game activities are soaring right now. More and more people over the age of 50 are joining the social gaming community through different platforms. As a matter of fact, the largest age group right now when it comes to social gaming are people between 50 and 59 years old. They make up 22% of the entire social gaming market, and they could be compared to the eye catching 18-21 year old age group which only makes up 5% of the community.

In a new study conducted by AssistedLivingToday (infographic designed by NowSourcing), a whole new picture of social gaming is brought to our attention. Through this infographic, which was designed around research called Gaming With Granny, we get an overview of just how much granny game activities are impacting the social gaming community right now. Quite astonishing is the fact that between 2009 and 2011, the number of senior aged Internet users grew by over 150%. That is a huge increase which I think we’ll see a lot more of. Maybe that is much thanks to Zynga which is the largest social gaming producer on the Internet. They pretty much solely focus on granny game activities. However, Zynga has seen a great decline since the beginning of 2012, and their SEO and board member John Schappert just announced today that he is stepping down from all of his duties effective immediately.

An interesting statistic that I think anyone would find quite amusing is that 1 in 5 women have left their husband or boyfriend due to neglect linked to too much gaming. The angling of this statistic can be swayed in various ways, but we’ll assume that it is the husband or boyfriend that is playing too much. Either way, granny game activities (whether they are social or not) are a great way to keep up both physical and mental fitness. Puzzle games are particularly good for elderly people since they will provide a healthy mind workout, and that way we’ll stay sharp for many more years to come. Now what will you do when you get old? Do you plan to kick butt in some granny game activities like a multiplayer online game or just sit around playing Tetris all day? The choice is really all your own. Just make sure you activate yourself to the fullest, and you will have a longer more enjoyable life. Granny game activities are expanding, so make sure you are synced in to it and you’ll have a kick ass time when you get older.
