How To Improve The Indoor Air Quality Of Your Home

When it comes to health, one of the first things people do is talk about exercise, proper food management, and living a stress-free life. More often than not, the quality of the air you breathe is overlooked or taken for granted, especially when it comes to your home. Poor indoor air quality and heating or cooling systems can cause serious health issues.

The fact is, most of the things that cause air-pollution are unfortunately odorless and translucent. Notably, in the winter days of the year, homes are more vulnerable to increased levels of indoor air pollution, since it gets colder and opening those windows might not be an option. Here we have gathered various ways to make sure your indoor air quality is suitable for you and your family.

1. Clean Air Conditioners

Not only does an air conditioner provide appropriate indoor temperature, but it can also improve your indoor air quality significantly. It filtrates the air coming in and out of your home and helps in keeping humidity levels at its best. If you’re living in South-East Asia, an air conditioner is not considered a luxury as much as a necessity, especially during those humid months. If you’re living in a country like Singapore, finding the right service provider to help you maintain your air conditioner is essential.

Recent studies have shown that filters are not the only thing you should clean, and you’d be best to find a professional air con servicing in Singapore that can help wash other essential parts, such as the unit’s fan coil, electronic control, and many other parts. It is better to wash with them using a special chemical mixture that will wipe off dust, dirt, and, most importantly, disinfects any bacterial or fungal specks found in your AC unit.

2. Monitor Indoor Humidity

You need to be aware of your humidity level. Excess air moisture may cause the appearance of dust mites and mold in your home, in addition to flaring up allergies. On the other hand, dry air can cause sore throats, cracked lips and skin, dry sinuses, and a bloody nose.

You can easily keep track of your home’s humidity level by placing an indoor humidity monitor, which you can pick up quickly from a drug store. Your home’s humidity level needs to be in-between 30 to 50 percent. If you encounter low levels, you will need to use a humidifier, otherwise an air-conditioner – during summer – can help reduce moisture effectively in your home.

3. Keep A Clean Home

Maintain the habit of cleaning your home’s floor, wiping the dust from furniture. Try to use natural cleaning detergents over chemical ones. Never forget to vacuum carpets at least once a week. It is better to use a vacuum cleaner with HEPA filters and clean them after every use.

4. Circulate Indoor Air

Circulating air in your home is the simplest and best way to improve your indoor air quality. Even in the cold season, open doors or windows early in the morning and enjoy the fresh breeze. Exerting effort to improve indoor air quality in your home will, without a doubt, improve the health of your family.

You will notice a decrease in health issues like headaches, unexplained allergies, and fatigue. Moreover, unpolluted indoor air will prevent future health complications. And last but not least, it will have a significant effect on your mood.
