Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept Car Is Like R2-D2’s Cousin

When I first read on the LA Times yesterday that this car is like R2-D2’s cousin, I admit it got my attention. But after I got passed the gimmicks and took a look at the car itself, I found myself drooling over the innovative technology incorporated into this concept car.  Although it’s a little annoying that the Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis concept car (which is currently in development) doesn’t exist yet so I can’t test drive it, it definitely hints towards where the combination of technology and automobiles is headed.

We already know that by the year 2040, 75% of cars on the road will be self-driving. 2040 isn’t that far away when you think about it. But what other features are coming in the very near future? If we look at this Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis as any indication, things are about to get reeeeally cool in our cars. Image being able to turn on the air conditioner, the navigation system and the stereo with just a hand gesture, yup, that will be possible. That means the knobs and controls we normally see inside a car will suddenly become obsolete and 3-D hand gesture recognition will become mainstream.

The intuitive interface inside the car also allows the driver to keep his or her eyes on the road regardless of distractions through an innovative heads-up display. There are eye-tracking devices built in to ensure a safer driving experience and thumb controls. The outside of this concept car doesn’t look that crazy different than what we are used to seeing, but on the inside it’s quite an upgrade. Ergonomics engineers have made a lot of changes in order to give us the most safe and comfortable ride possible. It’s all designed to be intuitive and groundbreaking. You can read all the details in geeky grandeur on 2013 Detroit AutoShow: Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept Car. Looks like a sweeeeeet ride to me! I’m so glad it’s already in production.
