Ever since 3D printing became popular, people have had fun body scanning themselves to create 3D replicas. There was a company several months ago that created Pez dispenser heads of each employee, which is the best adaptation I’ve seen. There was also the first 3D printing photo booth which opened last year in Japan. That one spit out a 3D printed version of you. As this technology progresses, so does the effect. These are the most realistic 3D replicas ever.
This time, instead of being in Japan, this pop-up shop is set up in Germany. They allow customers to create a mini-me of themselves, which look like little action figures. They are the most realistic and incredible 3D printed minis I’ve ever seen. If you are feeling extra adventurous, you could even get your cat or dog in on the action and have it scanned and printed too.
The company is called Twinkind, and they claim the process is really fast. When I look at these figurines or action figures below, they almost look like photographs. Although they’re hard to see up close, it seems the most realistic features are in the faces of each one. Also, the details in the clothes are incredibly realistic too. I wonder if someday there will be a 3D printing museum, like a wax museum, with life-size statues of people captured at a specific moment in time and then 3D printed.
If you want to try this, and if you are anywhere near Hamburg, look up Twinkind to see if they are still open (it’s a temporary service). Get ready to pay to play though. The cheapest 3D printed figure will cost you around $300. I think I’ll just wait until this becomes mainstream, which is only a matter of time!
