Rolomotion Introduces iPhone Powered Kinect-Like Gaming

Kinect had a profound impact when it was first introduced. People dreamed up the most mind boggling uses and features for it. But it wasn’t until we actually saw these features that we realized this gaming accessory’s true potential. Suddenly it was used for far more things than the gaming elements it was demoed with. Back then, nobody would think of combining an iPhone with a Kinect. When it comes to ingenuity, this iPhone powered Kinect-like gaming accessory is quite impressive.

The idea comes from a company called Rolocule Games, and it is intended to be a Kinect-like iPhone powered app that introduces the Kinect features into a sports game called Motion Tennis. It uses an iPhone and an Apple TV in order to connect through AirPlay Mirroring, which then allows your iPhone to become the racket itself. The iPhone powered technology is all there, but the technical software side of it is as complex as you could ever imagine.

Knowing Kinect was launched solely based on a gaming perspective, it’s not unlikely that iPhone developers find new and innovative ways to use the AirPlay Mirroring and the Apple TV box as a system to produce new and innovative Kinect-like features. This iPhone powered system presented by Rolocule called Rolomotion is of course quite intriguing, but there are safety aspects you need to consider before you go and throw your iPhone around like a Wii remote. The very first thing you need to do is put a strap on your iPhone and wrap it around your hand. You don’t want your iPhone to sit firmly in your wall once you’re done playing.

It will be interesting to see what Rolocule Games can come up with next now that they have a system that is powerful enough to add another level to the gaming experience on the iPhone. There seems to be a bit of lag, but maybe data transfer speeds can be increased through better compression algorithms. Nevertheless, it’s a super exciting new way of using the iPhone, don’t you think?
