I can remember owning a regular cell phone before smartphones became popular, can you? It wasn’t that long ago if you think about it. These days I’m completely addicted to my iPhone, and ironically, I barely use it for the phone part. It’s all about browsing the Internet and cool apps.
Watching the whole mobile shopping scene evolve is fascinating. Back in February, Richard wrote an article entitled How Mobile Shopping Is Changing The World. When I read that article again today, it seemed like news from ten years ago. That just goes to show how fast mobile technology is developing. It’s so fast paced, and it’s hard to keep up with it all sometimes.
When I published information in April which illustrated the 2011 Insane Mobile Marketing Facts & Trends, I realized this whole mobile thing is not a fad. It’s here to stay, and it’s the future of business and how we shop online. As this infographic below states, “the rapid expansion of mobile is morphing the retail environment again.” I shop on my iPhone a lot, but as you see, it’s not just about the actual purchase. We are comparing products, reading reviews and discussing our purchases on social networking sites. I don’t even buy movie tickets anymore without first checking with my Twitter followers to get their opinion of the movie I’m considering. With new shopping apps being released every day, well, let’s just say this is a whole new world we’re shopping in, and it all fits in the palm of our hand. According to Microsoft, by 2015, it’s predicted that mobile purchases will total $119 billion dollars globally!
