Social Media Dating On Flights: Choose Your Seat Mate On Facebook

Finally! Now there’s a way to make sure we get to sit next to the hot guy on our flight instead of the crying baby. Our seat assignment is no longer a game of chance played by the grumpy woman behind the check-in counter at the airport. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is planning to unveil a new service soon which will allow you to enter your Facebook and LinkedIn profile information into their website when you make a reservation.

Before you choose where you’d like to sit on the flight, you can view the social media profiles of the other people who have also elected to use this service. That way, you can plan who you will be seated next to. Some people are calling this “meet and seat” service a new way to help people join the Mile High Club, but I can see the applications far beyond that.

For example, what if you are the CEO of a company, and you want to do some business networking with other like-minded business travelers? What if you are a mom with a baby, and you want to sit next to another mom so she’ll understand when your child pukes everywhere? There are unlimited reasons why I think this could be very useful.

I read a comment from a woman who said, “I cannot think of anything worse than this…” Really? I can think of a lot of things worse than this. That’s the kind of comment people used to make about online dating, and you see how popular that is now. The great thing about this is that if you don’t want to use this service, you simply don’t enter your Facebook or LinkedIn information. It’s as simple as that. In other words, both parties have to consent. I know I’d use this service in a heartbeat!
