Sound Band: Soundless Headphones Ensure A Private Conversation

For decades, researchers have been tinkering with noise reduction technologies. Since sound travels through the air in pressure waves, it is believed that if you can reverse the pressure waves and meet the original pressure waves halfway to their destination, you can cancel out the sound entirely. So far there are just a few prototypes of this technology. A new headphone innovation called the Sound Band is on the very edge of noise reduction and could become a huge success.

Headphones are a great way to keep a conversation somewhat private. Even listening to music is somewhat private, but there has always been some kind of bleed that people around you are able to hear. That’s where the Sound Band is so unique. Instead of using sound, it uses vibrations to create the sound in your ears. If you think it sounds complex and weird, it’s probably because it is. As far as I know, there are no headphones like these available yet.

The technology behind the Sound Band is as complex as you can possibly imagine, but the approach is easy to understand. By producing sound vibrations that are sent through the bone and tissue in the back of your ears, you will be able to hear the sound as clearly as you usually do with ordinary headphones. This way, no one around you will ever hear what it is you’re listening to. It’s extremely cool, and it keeps your ears unblocked so you can still hear exactly what is going on around you.

The interest for the Sound Band has been insane so far! The founders and innovators behind the Sound Band are currently looking to fund the final stages of their innovation through crowdfunding. Their Kickstarter project is set to 45 days, and in less than 3 days, the campaign has been able to rake in an impressive $106,000 of the $175,000 they are looking to raise. I think it’s safe to say that the Sound Band Kickstarter campaign is definitely going to be successful. How could it not be? It’s one of the coolest technologies unveiled this year according to us here at Bit Rebels.
