Tuit: Unlocks Your NFC Enabled Smartphone With A Security Ring

Studies have shown that a lot of people (as many as 44%) do not enable the passcode security lock on their smartphones because they feel it’s too cumbersome. This means there are a lot of people out there who run the risk of having their personal information stolen. Loose calculations also tell us that we spend over 4 months of our lives unlocking our phones. There has to be an easier way, right? The Tuit, a smartphone security ring, could be the solution.

Apple incorporated the biometric sensor into their Home button, and immediately people started to rave about it being too easy to crack. Since then, Apple has refined the core code slightly in order to rectify this and so far it seems to be holding up quite nicely. With devices like the Tuit smartphone security ring, things will become just a little more secure.

The ring uses NFC (Near Field Communication) and is synced to your NFC enabled smartphone when you use it the first time. After that initial sync, all you need to do is take the phone in your hand, and it will unlock itself. If anyone else attempts to do the same same, it obviously won’t work. Tuit is a really clever solution to a problem that has yielded a lot of broken hearts and annoyances throughout the years.

In order to take their prototype ring, which is working perfectly I might add, to the next stage and actually make it into a consumer-ready product, the company behind this security ring is looking to raise some funds. They have decided to do so through a Kickstarter campaign, and so far the response has unfortunately been modest at best. It’s a neat concept, I am not going to lie, but with NFC abilities lacking in many smartphone brands, it seems people would rather wait for a new model of their favorite phone which might feature something like what Apple introduced in their iPhone 5S. Will it happen? We’ll just have to wait and see.
