For a while technology was heading in one single direction and becoming smaller and more powerful at the same time. Nowadays it has branched off into several different directions. Smartphones are once again getting bigger, yet we’re trying to create smaller gadgets that fit on our wrists. Yes, I am talking about smartwatches. But what about our desktops? When it comes to custom built devices, and when we’re talking miniature replica ones, John Leake is probably the person to talk to.
We have featured a couple of miniature replica devices here at Bit Rebels, but none that have the power and perfection that this Macintosh miniature replica has. John managed to build this epic creation with the help of a 3.5″ composite monitor, easily-shaped PVC, a Raspberry Pi computer and a bunch of other things. As if that wasn’t enough, John even managed to fit USB ports, an Ethernet port, and an HDMI port on the back of it so that he could easily hook it up to other devices.
It’s creations like this that make technology so much fun. You will never know what will come next. With powerful mini computers like the Raspberry Pi, there are always things that will be created beyond our expectations. But it’s not always easy to put something like this together. John had to cut, alter and create new hardware solutions in order to fit it all into the tiny little miniature replica case that now looks exactly like an early Macintosh.
Don’t be fooled, it is the real deal, and it’s running System 6 through the Mini vMac Emulator John installed. However, when it comes to the retro floppy disc slot on the front, I am sorry to say that it doesn’t work at all. It’s pretty much visual candy to make this miniature replica look more realistic and true to the ever so legendary Macintosh computer. Now we’re just waiting for the miniature replica keyboard to hit the real world as well, right? I am sure John is working on such a little awesome device right now. When it’s complete, this could possibly be the most mobile Macintosh ever created. Don’t you agree?
