When a disaster strikes, the preparations people have made never seem to be enough. Power is nowhere to be found, food is in short supply and people are shocked, scared and in complete disarray. More and more innovators are focusing on creating gadgets and devices to help the victims of these horrifying events. Some are of course better than others, but they all have one thing in common, and that is that they are meant to help. That’s the purpose of the emergency solar cooker as well.
When people are in shock, a bit of warm food usually helps them concentrate on something else. But as we all know, when a disaster strikes and power is in short supply, food can be hard to prepare. The emergency solar cooker is a concept that could come to change all that. It’s a pretty clever concept that could have a significant impact on how disaster victims recover. It could particularly impact the countries in the world that have an abundance of sunlight all year around.
The concept was developed by designer Cheng-Tsung Feng and doesn’t require a whole lot of time to be setup. It’s insanely portable and comes with a whole lot of food as well. Once set up, the solar cooker will easily help prepare food in two cooking pots or whatever else you want to put on the solar spot. The solar cooker panel has a sun positioning pointer that make sure it is positioned correctly. When the pointer doesn’t have a shadow, the solar cooker is perfectly aligned to the sun.
Don’t expect to cook food fast though. It will take 60 minutes to reach 100 degrees Celsius, the boiling point of water. It’s still better than not being able to cook food at all in a distressed situation. The concept is ready to be deployed right away, and is looks like it’s about to get a lot interest from help organizations around the world. It’s concepts like this that will better prepare us all when disasters strike.
