I love pop-up books. I am amazed at the artistry that goes into the making of one. The term pop-up book is often applied to any three-dimensional or movable book, although properly the umbrella term movable book covers pop-ups, transformations, tunnel books, volvelles, flaps, pull-tabs, pop-outs, pull-downs, and more, each of which performs in a different manner. Also included, because they employ the same techniques, are three-dimensional greeting cards.
The pop up book you will see here was produced by Yohan. He says that the whole process of finding the idea, designing and building took 4.5 months. He had to build about 3-7 prototypes for each pop-up. At a certain point, it’s quite impossible to calculate the different parts of the paper mechanics, so it’s more like a trial and error method for him.
A lot of work went into this and you can see the amazing result. I hope to make one someday. It’s truly inspiring when you see a design come to life like this.
