Custom Pen: The Sleek, Steel Ballpoint Pen You Build Yourself

The Jetsons was one of my favorite cartoons when I was growing up. I was obsessed with the cool gadgets George Jetson and his family used every day to make their lives simpler. I’m still trying to figure out where I can buy the machine that made dinner with the touch of a button. My kids would even pitch in for that! While George was surrounded with (at the time) cutting edge widgets, he has nothing on the Paraphernalia Falter 2D custom pen. Sure, he could fold his spaceship into a briefcase, but how practical was that when he needed to sign important papers?

This do-it-yourself writing tool starts out as a thin, pressed steel kit that comes with all of the pieces you need to create a retractable ballpoint custom pen. Along with a small tool to shape the finished product, the kit includes a stand and a mini ruler. You don’t have to be a mechanical engineer to build this (although a mechanical engineer designed it), but being able to follow directions is a definite plus.

This isn’t your average pen, which explains the $40 price tag. You could use a cheap pen with a cap that doubles as a toothpick or an ear cleaner (you know you know people who do that), or you could use a custom pen that looks and feels different from any other pen available. In fact, consider it a work of art that happens to be stylish and functional. After you finish your mechanical masterpiece and pat yourself on the back for a job well done, you’ll probably want to show off your DIY skills (and your new custom pen) to everyone you know. Or, you may want to store this stylish pen on the stand and never take it out of your office. After all, it’s handmade in Italy, but it’s ultimately handmade by you.
