Let’s pretend for a second that you are a heck of a skateboarder, and in the process of learning your trade, you break an incredible number of boards before you finally started figuring out the tricks you want to learn. It’s a long shot, I know, but keep this in mind for a few minutes. You are left with a pile of skateboard wood that you have no idea what to do with. Are you just going to throw it in the garbage and pretend nothing could be done to salvage that wood? I am sure we all would have done that at one point. After all, what can you make out of some old and broken skateboards, right?
First of all, I just learned that they are called skateboard decks, yeah that’s how pro I am. Second, there is a use for old and broken skateboard decks, at least if you ask the acclaimed artist Haroshi. We have seen his art before, and back then it was also all about broken skateboard decks and how they could be recycled. This time around though, Haroshi has been locked up inside his workshop creating some stunning new artwork for our viewing pleasure.
Once again, they are skateboard decks glued together and then sanded down to the desired sculpture. Not only are they unbelievably beautiful, but the forms and shapes seem almost impossible to create out of broken skateboard decks, wouldn’t you say? Haroshi showcases another great example that just because something is broken and its initial use is expired, it doesn’t mean the thing can’t be salvaged and used for something else. This is, as Steve Jobs would have said it, insanely great!
