Retro 8-Bit Artwork In The Stockholm Subway System [18 Pics]

Sweden is one of those countries that in some ways could be explained by the word average. We have winters, and we have summers. The temperature in the winter averages around -20 degrees Celsius, and in the summers it’s around +20-25 degrees Celsius. That’s a span of about 40-45 degrees difference in a matter of a few months. So we don’t have too much winter, and we don’t have too much summer either. Our population isn’t very large, they’re around 9-10 million people living in Sweden, so it’s quite a small country compared to mega nations like Russia or the United States. We’re the average country that is the world’s most Americanized society when it comes to trends and stuff like that.

With all the talk about retro stuff we’ve been writing about lately here on Bit Rebels, it’s about time we featured something that is actually from Sweden, don’t you think? Here we have a very strong gaming community, just like in the U.S. Gamers are as hardcore as they come here, and we also appreciate the retro 8-bit graphics that keep us mesmerized to the point that we start to reminiscence about our earlier years as geeks.

As a matter of fact, here in Stockholm, we have some rather awesome 8-bit retro gaming artwork in our subway system that you just have to see. It’s all about Super Mario and PacMan, and the pieces of artwork are built with tiles. So every day as you take the subway to work or somewhere else, you are, as a gamer or retro artist, inspired by the many different and awesome ways they have made these games available through brilliant tile artwork. It’s truly creative, wouldn’t you say?
