This Toothpick Build Took 35 Years To Complete

Time. It’s the one thing that we all wish we had more of. I was just listening to the song “Forever Young” by Alphaville, and I must say, as cheesy as the video is, the song is a sure bet to bring the retro back into your life. I guess we all would like to stay young forever. Most likely we have all experienced a moment in life where, if we could, we would stop time just to enjoy it for a lifetime or two. Well, as for right now, living forever is nobody’s choice. I guess no matter how long or short your time is here on earth, it’s what you fill it with that is ultimately important. It’s all about what you make of it in the end. It’s the moments of true joy.

For some people, that choice has gone entirely to the creative side. That is the case for designer and toothpick pioneer Scott Weaver. He has truly been busy the last 35 years, and it has all been spent creating a build that will take you about the same amount of time to get through. Using well over 100,000 toothpicks, Scott created a build that is not only intricate as heck, but also unimaginably beautiful, if you like chaos that is.

The build, called the Golden Gate Park, has an impressive flora of toothpicks as well. With friends and family members roaming the planet, Scott has been given a vast collection of toothpick brands from all over the world. He has incorporated toothpicks from Kenya, Morocco, Spain, West Germany and Italy just to name a few countries. It’s almost mesmerizing to look at his build since the detail just goes on forever and ever. What is most inspiring is the dedication he keeps spending to build more even after 35 years. That is pure passion and dedication if you ask me.
