I am sure there is some kind of app or software out there that will help us keep track of all the characters we use on our keyboards throughout whatever time period we want. I know there are some plugins for WordPress that will keep track of how many words each author has typed in every article and gives the result on the front page of the dashboard. I installed it not too long ago, but had to uninstall it due to some compatibility issues. At that time, I think I was near 1.5 million words used in all my articles combined since I started Bit Rebels. An average book contains between 350,000-400,000 words they say, so roughly I could have written three and a half book since Bit Rebels started.
It’s a lot of words, and I wouldn’t do anything differently because Bit Rebels is such a pleasure to continuously evolve. The more words we add, the more addicted we become to write more. The frequency in which we use the characters and letters on our keyboards; however, is a little bit harder to keep track of when working in WordPress. There have been some studies through the years about what letters people tend to use the most, and it can be visualized through a pretty modified keyboard.
It’s interesting to see that the letter “E” is the most frequently used in the English language. Or is it? I guess it depends on what words you use when you’re writing, but this unofficial study by Mark Knuepfel shows clearly that letters are used unevenly when writing. Take “J” and “K” for example. According to this visualization, we use these letters quite sparsely if hardly at all. Then again, we don’t know the number of total letters this result is derived from, so it’s hard to estimate its accuracy. I find these images really interesting and intriguing to say the least.
