4 Awesome Ideas For July 4th In Nashville

Birthdays are always so much fun, aren’t they? And arguably the biggest birthday event of the year is that of America herself when everyone in the country gets together to celebrate independence and freedom. There is no shortage of things to do this Independence holiday around Nashville, however, you like to celebrate. This article will spotlight three ideas, each awesome in its own way, for things you can do around Nashville.

For The Adventurous

If you like your independence peppered with a bit of excitement, then Nashville has the thing for you: BATL the Backyard Axe Throwing League. At the BATL facility near Broadway, Nissan Stadium, and Germantown, you can try axe throwing with your friends by booking a lane or coming during their public walk-in hours on the weekend. Shooting range rules apply, roughly: you’ve got a target ahead of you (wood instead of paper, in this case) and you’re throwing your axe to try and hit the middle.

Don’t worry about the fact that you’ve never thrown an axe before, because when you book a lane you get free instructions and practice time to hone your skills, before competing with your friends or family. Go back to a woodsier time this July 4th weekend by heading down to BATL to try some axe throwing.

For The Food-Lover

If your idea of the perfect Independence Day ends in a food coma, then the perfect itinerary has to start and end with the Nashville Hot Chicken Festival. Started in 2007, this finger-licking festival is in its twelfth year and seems to only be growing in popularity. At East Park on July 4th you’ll find Hot Chicken from Nashville’s most renowned establishments, as well as local bands playing (wouldn’t be a party without music, right?), beer on tap for those old enough to enjoy, and even an amateur cooking competition.

Opening with a fire truck parade (get it? Because it’s hot), the first 500 people in line at 11 am get a free sample of the Nashville specialty. Is there a better way to honor American independence than with a uniquely American food?

For The Family

With the family in tow, you want something that’s fun for everyone this July 4th holiday. The Nashville Zoo has you covered, with a mix of its usual attractions and some holiday fun. On July 7th, the weekend directly following Independence Day, the zoo is putting on its annual Summer Splash H2OLIDAY, a “water wonderland” event complete with slides, water games and fun activities. Not only is it a splashy event, but you also get to see the animals having fun too.

Of course, you don’t have to spend a dime to have fun. Nashville puts on an amazing fireworks display, accompanied by live music. The kids will be in absolute awe! Just make sure to check the weather report beforehand, and dress accordingly.

For The Party Animal

Some people like to look at Independence Day as a good excuse to party, and who is anybody to argue with that logic. Acme Feed And Seed, the trendy, multilevel venue at the corner of 1st and Broadway puts on an amazing party, Acme’s Fourth Of July Blowout, with swag bags, rooftop drinks, and a dinner buffet. Or how about The 5 Spot, which Airbnb ranked #1 among nightclubs in all of Nashville: its dance parties incorporate blues, country, and Americana, making it a perfect choice for your 4th of July partying.

Then there’s Tootsies Orchid Lounge, where Dolly Parton was discovered, which will scratch that Honky Tonk itch for sure. Yes, it might be a little kitschy, but it’s a piece of American history, having opened in 1960 and played host to a number of stars, so it’s only fitting that you’d wind up there on Independence Day.

This July 4th and July 4th weekend, do something a little different. Whether it’s throwing axes at BATL, filling up at the Nashville Hot Chicken Festival, getting drenched at the Nashville Zoo’s Summer Splash H2OLIDAY or partying it up downtown, your holiday is going to be awesome. For the perfect mix of entertainment, nourishment, and fun, you could even try and do all four!
