How Can Having Faith Help You Overcome Tragedy?

There are moments when you may question your beliefs. Those moments of weakness can happen the most during the hardest moments of your life. If you have recently faced an unfathomable tragedy, you may find yourself questioning your faith and God once again. It is never easy to have faith during a tragedy. There are a lot of unanswered questions you may be dealing with. Some of the questions you could be asking include:

  • Why has this happened?
  • Was there something that could have prevented this tragedy?
  • Did I do something wrong?
  • Am I being punished by God?

Although these are common questions asked by people who have experienced a tragedy that has left them dealing with a number of emotions and feelings, such as grief, anxiety, and depression, it is important to understand that having faith can help you overcome tragedy. It may be one of the last things you are thinking about when dealing with such a serious situation that has had such a negative impact on your life, but your faith is something you should never give up on for several great reasons.

The Grieving Process: Understanding What Has Happened

[pullquote]The grieving process is one of the most challenging things to get through after a tragedy.[/pullquote] If you have lost a person or several people you love, doing something as simple as waking up in the morning could be daunting. Going to church or attending faith-based group meetings with like-minded people, such as The Way International, could be exactly what you need. While you are questioning your faith, people with the same beliefs may be able to help you understand that what has happened is not your fault and is not a form of punishment from God.

The people who meet with you could help to lift you up instead of bringing you down. They may want to remind you of how strong you are and how stronger you may start to feel if you continue to believe in God, pray to Him regularly, and simply have faith that things will eventually start to get better.

Nothing you do or say can erase the painful memories of the tragedy you have experienced, but your belief in God could help you to get through some of the toughest challenges, including the grieving process. Rather than live your life in fear, it is best to let go of the fear and simply have a willingness to listen to what God is trying to tell you.

Being Comforted: Receiving Help And Support From Others

After experiencing a tragedy, it helps to have comfort and support. If you are alone, you may feel neglected and unhappy. You may start to question your beliefs because you feel like no one understands you or what you have gone through. You must be willing to accept the help and support that is offered. Those who share similar beliefs, commonly known as in-groups, tend to have the most compassion toward one another. Instead of pushing God out of your life because of the tragedy, learn to love him even more, and accept help that comes along with having faith.

Attending church and group meetings could help to take your mind off the tragedy, even if it is only for a few hours throughout the week. Sitting down and talking to trustworthy, compassionate people could make you feel a lot better, too. Knowing that you are not being judged for what you feel while expressing yourself is the best feeling. There are people who want to hear you out and help you out during this tough time in your life by spreading God’s word around.

The Guidance Phase: Learning To Trust And Have Faith In God’s Plan

[pullquote]A tragedy can easily turn a person’s life upside down. Everything you once had could have been taken away from you so quickly.[/pullquote] You have every right to feel upset, sad, and angry. Go through the grieving process, let out your emotions, but do not forget to have faith in God’s plan for you. Things will get better with time, and your situation will not always be as bad as it may feel at the moment. Know that there are people out there who genuinely love you and want to help you.

Never let a bad situation take your faith away from you. There are moments in time when terrible tragedies occur. It is not always possible to be the one to avoid the tragedy. If there is something you have recently experienced that has caused you to question your faith, beliefs, and God in general, take some time to speak to God alone. Pray as much as you want alone or with a group of people who can offer some comfort and support to you. It is not uncommon for people to question God at some point throughout their lives, but that does not mean you have to give up on Him. If you truly believe, He will get you through the toughest moments in time.
