The WiFiication of everything has finally started. As you might have experienced in the last couple of years, things are becoming more and more interactive. Even your microwave can be tapped into with your smartphone these days. Soon pretty much everything you ever thought of using on a daily basis will have WiFi, which means you will never have to move in order to interact with it. The pace may soon pick up for the WiFi revolution with the recently announced Spark Core chip.
The Spark Core chip is a nifty little innovation that can turn anything into a WiFi device – everything from your refrigerator to your bike basically. The company behind the chip is Spark Devices, and it was originally prototyped in China. The Spark Core chip is Arduino compatible, which means you can create very powerful WiFi gadgets and devices. The really interesting aspect about this is that you can wirelessly program it to do pretty much whatever you want.
If you want it to tweet something when it’s triggered, you can do that. If you want to detect motion with it, well you can. Its abilities are virtually limitless. If you can dream it, you can use the Spark Core chip and an Arduino computer to create it.
The Spark Core chip is a startup project maintained and innovated by Spark Devices. They were looking to raise $10,000 in order to secure the production of this wondrous little gadget. With 17 days to go, they have managed to raise a massive (and insane) $270,000 for the Kickstarter. It’s a testament to how popular the WiFiication of devices really is. When this Kickstarter project is completed, there will be a landslide of WiFi devices brought to the market.
Combine this Spark Core chip with a 3D printer, and you have the ultimate innovator’s kit all ready for you to create the world. I get kind of excited when I see small things that make such a huge impact on the world. This is definitely going to be something you would want to follow and take a closer look at. The WiFiication of the world is driven by the Spark Core chip, period!
