In 2011, we saw a lot of new trends emerge that implied social media was taking yet another step towards ruling not only the Internet, but also our lives to some extent. Groupon saw a huge increase in users, but fell quite hard when they went public on the stock market. It was the hype of the moment that made a lot of investors see ghost expectations which turned out to be just that. We saw a lot of other social media phenomenons as well, and one in particular that rose to the occasion was Quora. During a few months, the social Q&A service was the hottest thing, only to die down a little bit in hype.
So what really were the technology trends of 2011? What do we have in store for us in 2012? Leaning on the trends of 2011, it seems apparent that we will see some really interesting developments when it comes to the cloud, online video, crowdfunding and also of course photo sharing. There are several more areas that we will probably see a huge increase in usage. G+ put together an infographic that features some of these areas, and it explains what they gave us in 2011.
It’s hard to say whether or not these trends will continue to emerge in 2011. The only thing we know for sure is that 2012 is going to be one heck of an interesting year with a lot of new things. Some say we will see new social networking websites rise to fame, and maybe the one we should be focusing on is Pinterest, which has become an increasing force in itself. The sharing and marketing opportunities it offers are seemingly endless, and people have just scraped the surface of what it can offer in my own humble opinion. So what do you think 2012 will hold? Are we going to see a continuation of the trends from 2011 or will there be a whole new set of trends emerging?
