This touch sensitive interactive video floor is so exciting. We’ve seen touch sensitive, interactive flooring before, like in a small space where kids can jump and a blotch of color splashes on the screen where their feet hit, but this takes that experience to a whole new level. Imagine having this kind of flooring in your house. It really would change everything.
Your whole perception of the world around you would morph into a confusing mixture of what is real and what isn’t. It’s a way to bring technology into every step we take, literally. What you see below is a prototype touch sensitive floor that displays an interactive video. It’s designed to be used at home to change and upgrade the sights we see, and the way we live. Here is the crazy part…
If you look into this floor, you will see your own reflection. Not only that, but as you walk across it, you’ll see a computer generated person who is wearing the same clothes as you walk across the floor following in your footsteps. Is it blowing your mind yet?
As you see, people kick around a soccer ball so the floor creates a CGI soccer ball that moves with the real soccer ball. And there is more…
This touch sensitive floor can identify who someone is by their exact weight, etc. If that person sits in the living room, for example, the system can turn the television on to their favorite channel. This flooring was created in Patrick Baudisch’s lab at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Germany with funding from Microsoft Research in Cambridge, UK. If you would like to read more about this and how exactly they were able to get it to work, you can click over to New Scientist. I can’t wait to experience this myself some day!
